Second Emergency Order to Support Homeless and Vulnerable During Pandemic

Governor Sununu released emergency order #28 in support of temporary non-congregate shelter solutions for New Hampshire residents experiencing homelessness.  The Governor’s order directs state, local, and private sector partners to work together to: 1) identify isolation sites for COVID-19 positive individuals or those who have symptoms and who are experiencing homelessness; 2) create a plan and partner with local communities to assist shelters to reduce the numbers of individuals in shelters to provide adequate social distancing in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19: and 3) provide non-congregate temporary housing for first responders and health care workers who are at reasonable risk of having been exposed to COVID-19 and cannot return to their residence.

The order followed emergency order #27 that restricted all NH lodging providers for vulnerable populations and essential workers. The two orders have resulted in more hoteling options for homeless shelter providers.
