RELEASE: New Polling Shows NH Voters Want Lawmakers to Continue Legalizing Housing Options
CONCORD–In response to the release of Saint Anselm College’s Initiative for Housing Policy and Practice annual statewide survey of voter attitudes toward affordable housing in New Hampshire, housing advocates released the following statements:
Nick Taylor, director of Housing Action NH, stated: “Every Granite Stater deserves a place to call home, and the survey results show voters overwhelmingly agree. As we approach another legislative session and an election year, it is clearer than ever that Granite Staters expect our elected officials and candidates to support solutions to address the affordable housing shortage in New Hampshire. Whether it’s businesses looking for workers, young families hoping to put down roots, or seniors seeking to age in place, they all want accessible and attainable housing options.”
Susan Cole, 2025 President of New Hampshire REALTORS, added: “The greatest obstacle in our housing market continues to be the lack of inventory and the resulting lack of affordability. Despite some increases in available homes, housing and rental prices continue to increase. The poll shows that families and workers across the state want policymakers at all levels to remain focused on long-term solutions to address the housing shortage. New Hampshire still has a long way to go to get back to a balanced housing market.”
Michael Skelton, president and CEO of BIA of New Hampshire, said: “This survey reaffirms that a super majority of New Hampshire voters support policymakers taking action to address the housing supply and affordability crisis facing the state. The stakes for the future of New Hampshire’s economy could not be greater. Businesses and employers across the state consistently cite housing supply and affordability as a key barrier to attracting, retaining, and growing their workforce. The 2026 legislative session is a critical opportunity to deliver on what voters are calling for by advancing more pro-housing policy solutions into law.”
